The purpose of this offering is to help practitioners develop more regularity with their āsana practice. If you’ve had a practice and gotten off track, this can serve as a wonderful tool for re-igniting your commitment to a self-care routine that includes breath-centric āsana. It’s recommended you practice the 60 minute āsana class in Teachable at least once a week. On the off days it’s recommended that you practice some form of breath/ movement/ meditation for at least seven minutes each day.
Allison’s classes are light hearted, straight forward, and transformational in nature. Her disciplined and ongoing study of Haṭha Yoga Pradīpikā during her 10-year stint running a Yoga School enabled a traditional emphasis on posture and breath. When we combine body and breath towards the goal of cohesion, health and peace of mind are manifested. It’s interesting to note however, that the ancient scriptures omit raving about the physical and emotional health benefits of yoga, it’s merely a side effect, not the goal. The ultimate goal, of course, being liberation from suffering.
About the Classes
The āsana classes are pre-recorded and will arrive in your Teachable portal every Saturday morning. If you would like to check in with Allison live and in person as you re-ignite your home practice, she will offer a 15 minute weekly meditation on Sundays at 8am MT followed by a brief Q&A.
Throughout the pre-recorded classes Allison will demonstrate the āsanas and vinyāsa sequences. The emphasis will be on slow, intentional, repetitive movement coupled with static positions. Talking will be minimal, and reminders will mostly refer to conscious engagement with breath as you approach each posture from an alert, awake, and as relaxed a state as is possible. In other words, the movement should not feel stressful.
After movement, we’ll rest in śavāsana. No bells, whistles, or frills, just simple practices aimed at discovery of the moment as it actually is.
Attendance and Pricing
It is recommended that you commit to a specific day and time to take the class, and do your best to stay on track. Attending the FREE Weekly Meditation and Satsang live will also enable a sense of community, so please come if at all possible to check in with Allison about how your practice is going.
